rules of the competition

I. PATICIPATION TO THE COMPETITION
The competition is meant for violinists of all nationalities registered or having been registered as a pupil of confirmed level in a Belgian or foreign Music Academy or Upper Teaching Music Establishment.
The registration for the competition is subordinated to the sending of the Certificate duly completed as well as the payment to the account number IBAN BE87 7775 9419 4794, BIC GKCCBEBB of the « Lions Club de Liège Hauts-Sarts asbl » with the communication « Concours Henri Koch 2013 » of the registration fee of 50 Euros. Deadline for registration is September 28, 2013. This payment is not refundable. The candidates will provide the authorization of their Music Academy or professor.

II. PERFORMANCE OF THE CANDIDATES

>> Preliminary Competition:

          • 1 original work of a Belgian composer (imperative) which will be transmitted to the registered candidates at the latest on September 28, 2013
          • 1 quick movement without repeat of a sonata or a partita by J.S. Bach
          • 1 "etude" or "capriccio" chosen by the candidate
          • 1 slow movement of a sonata or a partita by J.S. Bach (the jury will select 1 of the 2 Bach)

>> Final Competition:

• First movement of a concerto by Mozart with cadence
• 1 work of the repertoire chosen by the candidate
• 2 works of the repertoire (the jury will select one)

The candidates will indicate the timing of each work. The works may be performed either with or without partition. If needed, the candidates will be accompanied by their usual pianist.
The preliminary competition will last a maximum of 15 minutes per candidate and the final competition 30 minutes. The finalists will be named by the Jury. Members of the Jury having been or being the teacher of a candidate will not deliver a vote for this candidate.

III. JURY AND PRIZES
At the request of the president, the jury may interrupt the performance of a Candidate if the granted timing is past. The deliberation of the jury is confidential.
The results the jury has proclaimed are without appeal. The jury may award or not award a prize. Every finalist will be granted with a participation diploma.
The jury will award the following prizes ( special prizes could be possibly granted) :

• Prize "Henri Koch" 2013: 1.000,00 Euros "Prize of the Fédération Wallonie-Bruxelles" and a soloist performance with the Philharmonic Orchestra of Liège
• Second Prize: 500,00 Euros "Prize of Liège Province Culture"
• Third Prize: 350,00 Euros "Prize of the City of Liège"
• Fourth Prize: 250,00 Euros "Prize of the Lions Club de Liège Hauts-Sarts"

IV. PLACE AND DATES
The competition will take place at the Royal Academy of Liège on October 19 and 20, 2013.

V. ORGANIZATION OF THE COMPETITION
Applications should be sent to:
Harry Natowitz, Quai de Rome 25, B-4000 Liège, Belgium at the latest on September 28, 2013.
The participants will receive a letter with the planning at least a fortnight before the competition starts. Participants should be present when the competition starts and when the moment of their performance will be determined by lotdrawing.
The board of organizers keeps the rights for broadcasting, publishing and recording.
The jury is the master of all its decisions. All virtual problems in relation with the organization of the competition will be addressed to its board.
The board of organizers of the competition has no liability in case of physical or material damage which could intervene in relation with participation or audience.

2. Sir Patrice FANTANAROSA, violin soloist, Professor at the Scola Cantorum of Paris
3. Sir Roland DAUGAREL, violin soloist, Koncertmeister of the Orchestre de Paris, Professor at the Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique et de Danse de Paris
4. Sir Karen AROUTIOUNIAN, violin soloist, Professor at the Royal Academy of Music of Liège
5. Sir Eric MELON, violin soloist, Professor at the Royal Academy of Music of Liège

The Jury decides independently for unforeseen events concerning this regulation.
The board of organizers has the right to change the composition of the Jury in case of unavailability or unforeseen incidents.
